Cyperus papyrus

(Cyperus papyrus)
Cyperus papyrus

We collected this specimen of Cyperus papyrus on the Nile River in Egypt and selected it for its massive size and deep green color. Our cultivar reaches 15’ in height in one season and is extremely vigorous. Cyperus is renowned for its use as paper in that region. Cyperus papyrus is the tallest and most striking of the Cyperus. Growing 10 to 15 feet tall on leafless green stems are the showy umbrellas composed of up to 50 to 100 graceful, arching and drooping hair-like rays. It produces greenish flowers in summer. This plant is a vigorous grower both in and out of water. Plant it up to 12 inches deep in water or in rich moist soil and protect from wind. It is hardy to about 20-25 degrees F.
