Aloe pictifolia

We were breaking camp in Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa and enjoying a morning cup of coffee with our Xhosa guide Steven when we see a 6” ball of dung seemingly rolling by itself through camp! We all jump up and look behind it and we see a large dung beetle energetically rolling the dung somewhere in a hurry! Later during the day Steven would roll a ball of dung past us as we walked on the trail. He fooled us so many times that when the next time a real dung beetle rolled past us we almost missed it! On our drive out of Port Elizabeth we collected our strain of Aloe pictifolia.  Ours exhibits especially bright white markings on both the top and bottoms of each leave and has a beautiful marbling not always present in other lineages. This is clearly one of the most beautiful of all the Aloes and is easy to grow. Plants sold in quart containers $19.99
