Giant Coreopsis
(Coreopsis gigantean)
Coreopsis gigantean
Giant Coreopsis is an odd looking woody perennial plant native to California and Baja California. The stem is actually a swollen trunk 1-2 m tall, 4-10cm diameter. The top is festooned with bright green, fern like leaves. The brilliant yellow flowers are borne on the top of the trunk along with the leaves with the bottom of the swollen trunk bare. This gives the plant a slight Dr. Seuss look to them while also making it look like a miniature palm tree. The flowers are bright yellow, daisy-like, 6-20cm. It is summer deciduous, leaving the trunk bare if summer water is withheld. It is easy to grow in a container and is a great addition to any plant collection. We sell these cool plants in 4” pots.
