Saurauia madrensis
(Saurauia madrensis)
Saurauia madrensis
This is another stunning specimen we collected from the cloud forests of Chiapas, Mexico. Saurauia madrensis is a luscious looking large leaved small tree with the new growth covered in red velvet giving this tree a decidedly tropical look. Huge clusters of white flowers appear in Spring & Summer followed by small fruits resembling Kiwis. Saurauia madrensis is a cousin to Kiwis and the fruit is edible! This tree can reach 5-10 meters tall and 5 meters wide making a nice umbrella shape in the understory of your garden. It is hardy to at least 20 degrees and enjoys compost and ample water. We sell this rare gem in 1 gallon containers.
