The wind was roaring so loudly that we couldn’t hear each other talk so yelling full throated was the order of the day. We were climbing up Malpaso where we hoped to be able to see 360 degrees into the surrounding Atlantic Ocean from our tiny island vantage point of Hierro in the Canary Island chain. We were having a terrible time climbing with the loose rock giving way at every step. As we came upon a more level area we discovered a lovely clump of Aeonium hierrense growing almost a a meter tall from the rocky soil. This Aeonium has by far the best leaf scarring pattern on its trunk of all Aeoniums and resembles a reptile's scales! We collected seeds and can now offer this amazing plant in quart containers. This plant grows fast and is easy to grow!
