Brugmansia arborea double white

We were bouncing around in the back of an open truck choking on diesel fumes and dust with a cheek packed full of Coca leaves and gritty lime powder. We were twenty of us, clad in layers of sweaters, jackets, wool caps mismatched gloves and it was still freezing! We were huddled together for warmth, our fingers and toes numb from the six hours exposed in the back of the truck, slowly descending into the fog shrouded jungle from the stiletto peaks of the Highlands. All of a sudden the truck shutters and pitches violently to the edge of the road coming to a grinding stop! We look over the side and there is literally no bottom! Wherever the valley floor is it is way down there buried in the mist! We scramble over the high wooden side and out of the truck onto the road. The trucks two tires are off the road hanging in air! The Indians took it in stride, stoic as always, calmly accepting whatever fate had in store for them. We, on the other hand, were totally freaked out and quite sure walking is a viable way down the mountains from here! We quickly decided otherwise and while we waited for help, decided to scout the surrounding jungle. We do not have to look far to see a wonderful 6 meter tall specimen of Brugmansia arborea that had a stunning double white flower. What a beautiful plant! Brugmansia arborea is an evergreen shrub or small tree whose leaves, flower stalks, fruit, and young shoots are covered with fine velvety white down. Its flowers are strongly fragrant capable of filling a valley with a heady sweet scent. The great, trumpet-shaped ivory-white colored flowers give it the colloquial name of “Trumpet Flower”. It produces flowers almost continuously. Native to the Andes Mountains of southern Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, western Bolivia, and northern Chile, it is the hardiest of all Brugmansia species in regards to both cold and drought. They are often found in the drier valleys of the Andes and at elevations of 2000 to 3000 m so it is not uncommon for them to receive light frosts. We sell this incredible beauty in 1 gallon containers.
