Platycerium holttumii
(Platycerium holttumii)
Platycerium holttumii
Platycerium holttumii is a stunningly beautiful, large and symmetric fern. Closely related to P.grande, P.superbum, and P.wandae, Platycerium holttumii is endemic to Thailand, Malaysia and some nearby Indonesian islands. Platycerium holttumii experiences dry periods after the monsoon rains and is adapted to withstand them by using a spongy material in its Shield and Fertile Fronds. The dormancy period for Platycerium holttumii begins in mid fall after it has produced a new set of Fertile Fronds and they have matured. This dormancy period will last until mid spring. We offer this unusual fern mounted on a redwood plaque while supplies last.
