Stick Insects

Stick insects, often called Walking Stick bugs are a fascinating group of insects comprising the Phasmida order. These incredible creatures come in an astounding range of forms and colors, from a dead leaf replete with mold spots, to an armored, spiky alien looking bug straight out of a bad science fiction movie and range in size from the tiny half-inch-long (11.6-millimeter) Timema cristinae of North America, to the formidable 21-inch-long (328-millimeter) Phobaeticus kirbyi of Borneo. There are approximately 3,000 species of Phasmids. The only legal way for us to sell these remarkable bugs is to classify them as "Feeder Insects". While stick insects are often sold as reptile food because they are cheap and easy to keep and are a great source of insect protien, their gentle nature and low maintenance needs maks them great pets as well. They are hugely popular in Europe and are a perfect pet for the apartment dweller thriving in a small, disused aquarium or simple screen cage you can purchase on the internet. They become quite tame with gentle handling. Feeding is never a problem for these herbivores who will eat either Berry vines, English Ivy, Eucalyptus, Hawthorne, many kinds of Oak, and lots of other kinds of plants. You do not generally need to use extra heat or light beyound the typical ambient levels altready in your home. We sell only Stick Insects from the tropics and it is absolutely critical that they are never ever released into the environment. It is bad for the environment and bad for the bug; They will die the first winter anyway. We sell these remarkable creatures in Ova, Nymph and Adult forms as well as mounted and dried specimens when available. Please inquire.
